Mysterious underground fire keeps villagers on toes in Gomia block | Ranchi News

Bokaro: An underground fire erupted due to unidentified causes near villages in Badkagada area under Tilaiya panchayat in Gomia block of Bokaro district on Tuesday. The place of occurrence is close to the Bokaro river on the foothills of Luggu Hills. Local administration pressed teams to inspect the spot and began efforts to douse the flames by putting mud and soil with the help of earthmovers but to no avail. The administration asked locals to refrain from venturing nearby the fire zone. Local sources said that besides large flames of fire, the water in the ponds near the spot turned hot. “The flames were about 15-20 feet high due to which the soil also turned black,” said a villager.

UPDATE: Police release identity of driver in fatal crash

45 min ago Police have released the identity of a person who died in a fiery crash April 28 on U.S. 36 near Dana in Vermillion County. Sarah Nichole Murphy, 38, of West Terre Haute, died at the scene, said Sheriff Mike Phelps. Murphy was identified by DNA, and her family was notified Tuesday. Two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in entrapment and a fire. A witness told police that one vehicle crossed the center line, overcorrected and went out of control. Motorist Shane Moran, 46, of Chrisman, Illinois, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Phelps said. An Indiana State Police accident reconstruction team assisted in the investigation.
